THE PONDER SERIES # 7 - THE EXPERIENCE OF A GODLY MARRIAGE

Marriage is a spiritual experience as ordained by God in the mystery of two becoming one. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh” Genesis 2.24NKJV. Marriage is a mystery that is inseparable from God and under-girded by love and not law.

The worldview of marriage is a social contract to be terminated at will for often frivolous excuses and includes in some cases the concept of pre-nuptial contracts. It is a marriage of two remaining TWO. It is the failure to appreciate this important distinction that has led many Christians down the road of wrong marital unions, separation, divorce and “endurance unions”. It does not have to be so as this is not what God ordained.

Jesus spoke the mind of God about marriage “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” John 10.9NKJV. The key question is whether your choice of a spouse is one that God has joined you with – a Godly union and not one borne out of the flesh. Contrary to worldview, there is a difference in the outcome of these choices. While one is founded on the love of God, the other is founded on law, societal, family and cultural considerations.

Jesus let His disciples know that the Godly marriage cannot be broken by men as it is sustained by The Word but that which is founded on other foundations will be subject to the wrong influences that will produce adverse consequences. There is hope in Zion if you discern that your marriage has its roots in carnal principles. Come before your Father who ordained Marriage and repent of your disobedience or ignorance. Thank Him for the gift of restoration and life (John 11.25-26). Ask Him to give you the experience of healing in your marriage.

Wherever you stand today – single or married, you must align yourself with a Godly foundation and sustenance that comes from the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, the experience of a Godly marriage will continue to be an elusive experience. That is not God’s purpose for your life and so don’t settle for less.
